Janet Torelli is a veteran hairdresser and has been published many times, including the cover of Modern Salon magazine. She continually takes advanced color, cutting and styling courses to keep her skills updated. Because of her successful relationship with Aveda, she had the experience of performing on stage for Aveda Congress. She has also provided hairstyling for headshots, fashion shows and tv commercials. Most recently, Janet was chosen to assist backstage for Reem Acra at fashionweek NY 2012 through haircare sponsor, Rene Furterer. |

This review is a little overdue, but I must share what I wonderful experience I had with Janet back in February. I had purchased a Lifebooker certificate for highlights/cut, but decided I wanted to try something new, the ombre coloring style. Janet was kind enough to work with me to find an appropriate substitute for the value of the highlights. I must say how impressed I was with her attention to detail, consideration for my hair type and treatment to get me the best results I could have imagined. I simply showed her a photo of the Ombre coloring style I wanted and voila! She made it happen. I can't wait to make my next appointment with her!

I've been letting my hair grow for over a year now, and I wanted to keep letting it grow but was struggling terribly with it!! So much so, I contemplated cutting it all off almost daily! I have been going to salons and having my hair done from a very young age and have had more hair cuts than most women! After seeing Janet, I can honestly say I have never had such a detailed haircut in my life! Everything she did had a purpose, and she really listened to why I was struggling with my hair! It has been a month since my hair cut with Janet, and my hair still looks fabulous. I've gotten so many compliments! I can't wait to go back and see her again! Janet is truly a miracle worker! :-)

HIGHLY recommended. This salon is unique and you will leave looking great with a terrific cut or color. One look at owner/stylist Janet Torelli's fabulous curls and you know you are in expert hands. Anyone who can tame such temperamental locks can be trusted. She has an unerring eye for how the cut of your hair can showcase your eyes or cheekbones, or how just the right shade plays up your complexion. Her charming salon is light and airy but also refreshingly quiet - far from the bustle of most hair salons where you are passed from person to person, at Spitcurl you have Janet's personal attention. I have followed Janet around Chicago for 20 years now - yes, she's that good! Spitcurl is everything the other reviewers said - it's more like Janet is the hostess and you are her guest for the next hour. I joke with Janet each and every time I'm there to see her about "what's the music theme today", as there's always a great mix playing. In fact I've even gone out to buy the music she's had playing after hearing something new! Aside from the great music there's always some wonderful scent from the candles and yes, even refreshments! What a nice way to get a haircut! Oh and don't forget to check out her custom sterling martini pics and serving pieces - stunning!!

Owner and stylist Janet Torelli is a hair genius! She has cut my hair for ten years. I have curly, hard-to-cut hair, but she understands it and knows how to cut and style it. People often ask me who cuts my hair, she does such a good job.
The salon is stylish but low key, it's usually easy to park on Southport, and close to the El. As a bonus, it doesn't take hours to have your hair done. I'm usually in and out in 30 minutes. I really appreciate that.
